Americans have access to movie theatres in virtually every neighborhood in every town across the country. In many cities, huge multiplexes with plush stadium seating, digital surround sound and every amenity beckon patrons to spend upwards of $15 per person and often another $10 for a popcorn and soda.  Many big budget films, touted as “blockbusters” receive a tremendous amount of advertising and hype. These can bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue in a single weekend. However, with the increase in HDTV ownership, availability of high-quality movies on cable and computers, services that deliver DVDs by mail, and the rising price of theater tickets, cinema attendance has declined in recent years. Read More
