contributed by Ronna Fleischman Tea was first brought to North America by the Dutch in the 17th century.  Along with the British, who also passed on many of the customs that were common in England, tea drinking continued to take root. Special water pumps were installed in natural springs so that water would be readily available for making tea.  Tea Gardens were established at these “tea springs”.  Boston and Philadelphia adapted the English’s use of fancy silver and porcelain tea accessories to symbolize their wealth and elite social status.  Read More
