contributed by Priyanka Khatri The USA has an excellent rail network, and although it’s only a skeleton network by European standards, it’ll take you to almost all the towns and cities a visitor would want to see.  Amtrak is the leading national passenger train line and runs from coast to coast in comfort, by a variety of routes, at very affordable prices. The First Transcontinental Railroad in the U.S. was built across North America in the 1860s, linking the railroad network of the eastern U.S. with California on the Pacific coast. It created a nationwide mechanized transportation network that revolutionized the American West, catalyzing the transition from wagon trains to a modern transportation system. Read More

contributed by Priyanka Khatri Ideally, tips are given to certain individuals in the service industries who perform satisfactorily.  If a hotel porter picks up your three suitcases from the taxi, walks with you to the hotel check-in, escorts you up to your room, neatly unloads the bags, shows you where the thermostat is, how the TV remote works and where the $12 can of Coke is located in the mini-bar, how much do you tip the guy? American national treasures work in different fields, are of different generations, and all have different stories to tell. But all of their stories are that of America itself. Some are media moguls, others are entertainers that nobody can bring themselves to hate. A few are politicians that have enormous influence and cultural cachet, even if you completely disagree with everything they believe in. But what they have in common is that they exemplify the American spirit, can-do attitude, and our cultural heritage. They also do really great on talk shows. They're US national treasures and are loved by just about everyone.

contributed by Priyanka Khatri A travel document is an identity document issued by a government or international treaty organization to facilitate the movement of individuals or small groups of persons across international boundaries.  Travel documents assure other governments that the bearer may return to the issuing country, and are often issued in booklet form to allow other governments to place visas as well as entry and exit stamps into them. You can visit travel.state.gov to find information on a wide array of issues that affect Americans traveling or living abroad, as well as information for foreign travelers wishing to visit the United States.  Here you can apply for a visa and get information about visa waivers. Read More

contributed by Priyanka Khatri A boat is defined as a watercraft of any size designed to float or plane, or to provide passage across water.  Boats such as the whaleboat were designed to be operated from a ship in an offshore environment. In naval terms, a boat is a vessel small enough to be carried aboard another vessel (a ship). The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) was created in 1954 as a non-profit organization to develop safety standards for the design, construction, equipage, repair and maintenance of boats. As a consequence of the continuing success of this mission, ABYC has evolved into a viable alternative to mandatory government regulation of the marine industry. The mission of ABYC is to improve boating safety and reduce the number of injuries and fatalities. Read More
