contributed by Ronna Fleischman The Chinese Nationalist Party, also called Kuomintang, was established by Sun Yat-sen and Song Jiaoren in 1912 and governed all or part of mainland China from 1928 until 1949 under the leadership of Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang Kai-shek and his successors subsequently ruled Taiwan for the majority of time since then. In 1894, at a critical juncture in the Sino-Japanese war, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with clear perception and vision, traveled to Honolulu to appeal to the overseas Chinese there to form a revolutionary organization with the aim of rescuing the Chinese nation. Named the Revive China Society, it was the precursor to the Chinese Nationalist Party. Read More
