contributed by Ronna Fleischman In 2009, a study conducted by China Central Television revealed that Chinese people watched and average of 2 hours and 38 minutes of television per day.  Another study, conducted in Shanghai the following year, showed a dramatic increase to 5 hours 12 minutes a day, only minutes less than what Americans.  In the 1980’s, only two-thirds of the people in China had access to television.  But as more people rise from poverty, they are able to afford a television and have more leisure time to watch it.
